Aslong as your 100% positive on the firing order, you can play with the dizzy by "sound" if your not confident in doing so, you need a timing light, but I'd DEFINATELY check and recheck the firing order:D

Advance the dizzy, you'll here the revs climb marginally as you do and see if it improves, if it sounds as though its struggleing to start, you'll know when you hear it;), its to far advanced, but keep in mind when you road test to listen for pre ignition, better known as pinging

Khos I'll bring some stuff with me and try to drop in if the time frame works out with your work and Tafe etc with my travels. Now 12 am and just having Dinner:eek:
I just hope I don't have to get this car trailer back tomorrow:( I'm using the Rangie by the way:eek: Took it for a run loaded up and can cruise at 90 kmh on the flat so I think I'll make it:) The hills will be hard going:( I recon 5 hrs each way:eek: Think I better pack a swag;)

You mentioned things falling apart in the dizzy.......... Has any thing been changed out?

I'll phone you when I make it down anyway.

Thanks for your follow up Matt , Haven't had a chance to further diagnose the problem ,But You're are 100% right , It's gotta be related to timing. I won't have time this week to have a play around with it , been going to TAFE at night and working day time.:D

That's right , I marked all the leads before taking the Distributor out. John the mechanic next door took the distributor and serviced it for me while I was down the south Coast Fishing:p perhaps the mis-timing is related to that?:confused: not sure , but he is the one that also chekced the Timing once he reinstalled the Disctributor back in.

It could be a case of old electrics ... Leads & coil showing their age on a "freshened up" motor ... OR ... Could be that the Air Gap inside the distributor is not set right ... since the dizzy was stripped down / fiddled with

Will be electronic ignition

When people try to pull the rotor button, that's been on for ions, what heppens is, they twist and turn and pop the springs from the mechanical advance.....very easy to do:D

Sorry I missed you today and thanks for offer of a camp. This bloody trailer is under lease of local council so had to get it back:( I made it back at 1 am:eek:
Choccy, Coffee, coke and a window down. Oh and Santana loud:D

This trailer tows heaps better than that last pig we had on that Rutherglen trip.


The Rangie found a lease of life and sat on 110 kmh nicely with a 1650kg car on the back. I was a bit surprised;) Used 20ltrs per 100 for round trip of 850 kms with a car on the back both ways :eek:

... Yes ... in the dizzy ... I am referring to the 8 sided star piece that turns past the pickup (under the clear plastic shield) ... I "think" the air gap is about 20thou? (would have to check the manual)

I didn't know about the bit on the springs tho ;)
