Is there any way we can get new ( 2nd hand ) Panels for your Blue Rangie ( with a 3.9 ) and get it all back together without having to pull out your 3.5 to make way for the 3.9 as a donner , I'm finking if we could do that you'll have the other Rangie ( with 3.5) for the wife to drive and there will no downtime while we're gettin your touring vehicle set up and then do the head gasket and all the other stuff..

I just had another look at it and it doesn't look too bad

I was thinking along the same lines but the D pillar and rear quarter + Tail gate support are badly hurt. These sods of RRCs are welded together so be a bit of work in repairing it Make a great ute conversion though if I wanted one. May be a duel cab

Be hard to make it look right and retain room for rear headrest

That's a cool Dualcab , the only thing missing is a set of flexiFlares and that'll set it off

I sort of thought about if , if we could fix your 3.9 Rangie it would be really great but seeing your D-pillar ,rear quarter and tail Gate support is badly damaged then that's out of the question , the only option left is to pull out the 3.5 and make way for 3.9 with a Blower

I know the 3.5 has been really realiable but personally the 3.9 will be too . and we'll do the headgasket on it for peace of mind.

I took the old girl for a Run this morning to give it a bit of right foot up to Hornsby...

I can hardly tell the difference in performance with all that head work done and extractors ceramic coated...probably 0.01% DIFFERENCE one BIG plus is that there is no Coolant blowing out of expansion Tank. ........oh....B.Davis said you'll get better Fuel Economy ... well I bloody hope socost me a fortune

Yes there is a way ....

    On the Donor Rangie .....

Firstly strip all the front grill & bonnet off the wreck .... Expose all the engine area
Set the blower and the new electrics up on the 3.9 with it all "in situ" (in the wreck)
Have all the new ECU gear, sitting on the windscreen area .... You can test drive "the wreck" to sort out the blower & any running / cooling issues

This will give you the ability to set up the blower on the motor, and have it running properly ON THE donor car .... without having, to have, the pressure of down time of your main ride

With 2 folks, It should only take a Day to swap motors (verses 5 days + ? to set up blowers)

Sell the wreck & the 3.5 on Fleebay ..... (I have my hands up to buy the internal door panel trims if they are in good nick)

Mike , I agree with your methodology , however , would it NOT be easier to sort out the motor and the Blower on the 3.9 ( Donar Vehicle ) as you said earlier , have it running properly , then Unbolt the body & panels off it and get it down to Rolling chassis ,

Unbolt the body off the 3.5 and swap em around and then sort out all the electrics on the Donar vehicle

Would this take longer that swapping motors ? and running in all the electrics etc.

You know that may work out as I have to fit a LRA body lift and Maxi drives front and rear etc. Fit out the 90 with all the goodies shake it down and then swap the good 89 body over. Still have to rip the dash out again to replace the stupid TX valve in air con

Given all this ... is the glass half full or half empty

It would be easier // Time wise // to sort out a running chassie with the drive train sorted .... Cause Tony would not loose his ride /// no pressure to finish

It would just be a case of 8? body bolts to undo & then lift the body to swap.
The clincher would be the electrics + hoses & cables coming out of the fire wall .... They should all come out with the body, as they are not attached to the chassie .... The body could be lifted up, via a length of wood through the rear doors & another length through the front doors with 2 sets of block & tackle, to lift the body up & roll the chassie out / slip the new (donor) one in

Guess it's time for some input, via others, that have done a body swap / removal

    Mike
