Thread: PAS Box lash - wtf locknut!

    yep, gotta find the happy medium. the first one i adjusted i nipped it up to tight, centrally the steering was fine but the closer to full lock it got the tighter the steering did. later when that box died i pulled it apart, i found the centeral part of the worm gear was really sharp and worn more so than the outter part of the gear. the center had started to chip this was now a good indication as to why i couldnt stop the flamin thing leaking after numerous seal replacements

    go all the way down, then back it off a little. You're probably there already but it's just another check.

    Yep, screwed up an F100 steering box many moons ago doing the same thing.
    Actually had a bearing cage collapse, seized the sector shaft and punched the worm through the end of the box while trying to negotiate a bend at 90km/h

    Steering failure has a far, far greater sphincter pucker factor than brake failure or a stuck WOT, having experienced all three......(thankfully not simultaneously )
