    Camper Trailer Wheel Studs ?

    HI All,

I am currently building a camper trailer and have brought and put it togeather with Landrover hubs etc !, I had some steelies on it while I was wheeling it around the shed !!, Problem is I have got hold of some Landrover Standard Disco alloys to run 8 of the same rims/tyres on car and trailer and having just fitted two up to fit on the trailer I have realised that the stud is far to small for the standard Landrover Alloy nut ?, I canot see any way around this other than removing small studs and drilling out the holes and fitting Landrover studs ?

Anyone had to do this or had experience with this ?

Cheers and Thanks in Advance !

Hello mate, if its a D2 then studs must be M14, same as used on new Holden commodore and 100 series cruiser. (not same PCD though). I think the D1's have larger studs again. Unless you specify what studs you want used in your hubs when ordering them you'll get a standard imperial stud i think. Not the same as LR.

there is a camper trailer section on this forum, have a look in there or do a search.

make sure you know if they are D1 or D2 wheel nuts that you have as they differ.

It should be as simple as using your existing nut to identify the thread, buy the studs (most trailer manufacturers/parts suppliers will have them) knock out your old studs drill the holes out to and tap your new studs jobs done.

    Hi Jeremy
Martins Trailer Parts are the go,the Bayswater branch are the most helpfull.
However. They WILL NOT provide metric studs.I had to supply 14mm 100 Series Tojo ones so I could use D2 wheels. They do have an imperial stud of similar size to the D1/Series stud for steel rims, but your metric alloy nuts wont fit.
Check what stud length they require. They did some trick work on my electric brake hubs to make up for the fact the Tojo studs were too short.

Jeremy sounds as though you have got either

    1. OEM D2 hubs with studs smaller than the Classic/D1 16mm metric alloy nuts your using. If this the case this is hub configuration you need.

    2. You have after market trailer hubs they will probably have 5/8" (or smaller) imperial studs smaller than the Classic/D1 16mm alloy nuts your using.

The problem with these after market trailer hubs is they normally have a spigot PCD that is too small and doesn't match alloy wheels (165 mm for Classic/D1 alloys). This is not a problem with LR steel wheels, however for alloys the hub spigot and wheel have to mate snuggly to support the wheel which won't happen if PCD of spigot too small.
