    Td5 and 'that bolt'

Well I dropped the sump today to check that bolt. NO LOCTITE

I am ever so glad I did it and thank the gents that attended Scouses' Jenolan cruise.

Whilst the bolt wasn't loose, it did not take all that much effort to loosen. Loose enough to be a risk in my opinion....anyway, all fixed now.

FYI - My Disco was manufactured 10/03, and again, had NO LOCTITE

I think that EVERY Td5 should be checked. If you are unsure how, then ask me as I have now done one so I am of course, an expert

    Cheers

    Glad you caught it.
Took me 6 months after doing mine to stop getting nervouse. I kept wanting to go and check it again everytime I started the engine.

    TD5 Bolt

Now! that is a worry! I thought that the problem was sorted at least by early 2002,now we seem to be having later models with the same issue.
My Disco is a 06 2001 and it has been checked because that was in the region of concern. As it turned out mine was O.K.but 2003?obviously still an issue.
Why didn`t they put on a lock tab or wire the bloody thing in the first place?

    Hi trev,

yeah I thought I was immune as I owned an '03. I hadn't read any '03 Td5 bolts without the loctite.....but there it is. I can confirm this is not the case and I would say that 'ALL' need to be checked as a matter of urgency.

And as I said, I wasn't going to even check it until I went 4x4'ing with Scouse.

    Cheers

A good news story for a change.
If a left handed thread was used it would never have been an issue.

I'm sure there was a post quite some time ago re 2 Defenders being checked on the same day and the '03 had a suspect bolt whereas the earlier one was OK.

Caine, you have made me nervous.

Maybe the design of the bolt was changed in the later models so Locktite is not mandatory?

Mine's an 03 and the new bolt had Loctite already applied.
