    Checking TD5 Wastegate?

I believe that I may have a seized wastegate on my Disco 2 TD5.

Should you be able to feel any movement when trying to move the vacuum actuating rod by hand? With mine there is absolutely no movement whatsoever, which leads to to think it is seized.

Any other way to check it?

They are stiff, loosen the lock nut on the adjuster and wind it in or out, make sure you mark the original postion before you do this, give it one full turn, you will need pliers to turn the knurled nut.

If it turns, then i would say it's fine.

sorry to hijack thread but I've read two schools of thought on this forum on adjusting the wastegate: I think Tombie suggests adjusting until wastegate completely closed? and then another suggests to shorten rod 5-7mil. I tried the latter and performance was actually worse so I assume mine had already been adjusted to some extent and further adjustment made the rod too short to the extent that the overboost protection was kicking in. I adjusted it back to where it was which is about 11 threads of the rod showing between locknut and vacuum. Another post on this forum reckoned 2.5 bar of pressure should be aimed for, so maybe I'll ask my diesel mechanic to dial that in?

    Confused...
