Thread: rangie B-pillar cracks

I have heard of a similar problem. If it's cracked there, then I would stay away from the car unless it's super cheap & you have the abilty to do the work yourself. Whether the pillar is repaired or replaced depends on how severe the crack is I guess. Any pictures?

There's no legal issues if it's repaired properly either way.

It's not uncommon. I've seen a few. My old '86 had them, too.

2 doors crack the A pillar at the lower corners,4 Doors crack the B pillar at the striker.
Its just a lot of rough roads and old age.
A weld is the normal fix.
You would be surprise how much the turret moves around without a screen in. The only lateral bracing is the two conical guides on the tailgate and the screen.

The old yellow stooge-mobile had a fair bit of MIG action in those areas too

Very common with hard worked classic Rangies or that have had roof racks on over time. If you look hard the A pillars may have a small crack as well. Easy to repair. Just dent the crack in, weld, file flat and paint with GMH black.

Hi Tony,

Mine has A pillar cracks, thinking of pulling the roof off in order to fix them properly and fit a rollcage, and fix the rooflining...of course I have ALL the time in the world available

My 85 rangie had a well worn front screen seal and on badly corrugated roads you could see the screen moving around and the dust pouring in, a new screen and seal did wonders for the rigidity of the body- it had cracked in the B pillars at the waistline as well.
