Only recently replaced the frequently-breaking upper hose to the compressor and now there's a squealing whine from inside the cab.
Something caught in the fan.
I cleaned out the drain hoses with a pipe cleaner, dunno why I thought that'd make any difference. Somehow the pipe cleaner found its way into the fan, too.
Didn't quite get rid of the sound, but did make it -
Mellower.
I managed to fish it out, but whatever is caught in there that started the noise is not so easily removed.
Far as I can see I need to take out the whole unit to get in there. Or see if I can put a miner's light on one of the kids and send them spelunking.
I'm rather reluctant to remove the unit, particularly when it's actually cooling things that are hot.
Any suggestions?

Sure beats jamming a playing card through the spokes of your dragster.
But, it's been hot, and the 110 is still waiting on the aircon fairy, and the Subaru decided to lose all the coolant out of the heater core before Christmas, then to lose it again through some other mystery spot shortly after the mechanic close for his Christmas holidays. So I'm getting in trouble for it. Just doesn't seem to cut the mustard when I say it wasn't me that stuck stuff in the fan.
Well, except for my finger and the pipe cleaner.
Bzzzzt.
It does sting a bit if you put a finger in. Not really sure why I did and felt pretty dim about it afterwards but I guess it's one way to see if the fan still works...![]()
Rilka managed to move the plastic bag, so no more whine.
But no more cold either.
I reckon it's got up somewhere in the coldness bit.
Does anybody know if you can get any of the plastic of the underdash stuff off to check it out?
The bit at the corner of aircon, passenger side, three rivets, I can't tell if the bit under the rivets comes off.

You should be able to drop the fan deck out when you remove the return air sheet metal.
That should give you access to the evaporator so you can remove the offending bag.
