They should be pulled out annually and regreased / given a once over anyhow!!
By the sound of it, yours could do with a service.
Winches arent a fit and forget item... When you need it, you'll really need it, and you'll want it working!!!
Hi guys,
Slowly working through some maintenance checks on my discovery, redoing a couple of modifications done by the previous owner.
I noticed the free spool lever on the the winch is really stiff to turn. ( Magnum 9000).
I started by giving it a bit of CRC to help free it up, which helped a little, but was wondering if really I should pull the winch out and take a look whats going on inside.
I would rather not pull it out if I'm wasting my time, but I am also trying to get a few of the additions done properly, as it appears a few where installed by some pretty rough tradesmen or otherwise.![]()
Anyone have any experience that might help point me in the right direction?
Cheers, Mark

Thanks Tombie,
By the way a few of these other things are done pretty roughly, I doubt it's been out since install.
