    Stiff Freespool Lever Magnum Winch

    Hi guys,

Slowly working through some maintenance checks on my discovery, redoing a couple of modifications done by the previous owner.

I noticed the free spool lever on the the winch is really stiff to turn. ( Magnum 9000).

I started by giving it a bit of CRC to help free it up, which helped a little, but was wondering if really I should pull the winch out and take a look whats going on inside.

I would rather not pull it out if I'm wasting my time, but I am also trying to get a few of the additions done properly, as it appears a few where installed by some pretty rough tradesmen or otherwise.

Anyone have any experience that might help point me in the right direction?

    Cheers, Mark

They should be pulled out annually and regreased / given a once over anyhow!!

By the sound of it, yours could do with a service.

Winches arent a fit and forget item... When you need it, you'll really need it, and you'll want it working!!!

    Thanks Tombie,

By the way a few of these other things are done pretty roughly, I doubt it's been out since install.
