    Smile 1976 2 door Diffs

    Hello folks
    Thankyou in advance
I have searched the forums for my answer but have not been succesful.
    My question is.

Are the front and rear diffs in my 2 door interchangable?
I have a spare rear diff and do not know if it will fit the front of my Rangie, or do I need to get another one to carry as a spare.

Looking forward to doind West Coast of Tasmania in March for 7 to 10 days and want to carry a good choice of spares . Allready have front cv,s and rear axles, as well as other parts.

    cheers

Tim, the front and rear diff centres are interchangeable as long as nothing has been updated ie.lockers or 24 spline upgrades. Also check your spare for ratio and axle splines 10/24....Cheers....Bearman

Hi Tim, don't worry too much, your driving style is one which will be very hard to break diffs and axles.

His driving style might be good but those diffs are as strong as a tub of butter
They can and do break with out too much effort , more so when running bigger tyre,s than standard Ect 31/10.5/15,s
If you do manage to break a diff it will more than likely be the rear , yes standard diffs do interchange front to rear

    Hey Tim,
good to hear you're planning for the west coast trip. I've got a lot of spare 10 spline stuff, so if you want to carry a bit for spares let me know. You don't need to buy it, you can just borrow it. See you on Monday and don't forget the pics disc.

Too true Chris, I have actually seen one break when the park brake was applied on a steep hill
But as regards Tims truck, it has had an easy life and he treats it WWAAYY better than I treated my 4.6 RR on 10 spline diffs. But yes, fatigue can strike even when driving carefully. I'm looking at trying to find Tim a donor late D1 for all the 24 spline gear and diff housings for better clearance etc. One day....

    Hey Tim,

I broke 3 rear diff's in 3 weeks, now I have Maxi drive in the rear!!!

I'm running 35 inch Silverstones and tend to go pretty hard out most of the time. I hit a tree last weekend on a timed trial event, but was still the fastest Rangie Classic.

The Mudhog is front guardless at the moment, as I have rust repairs for the next WOF. I'm going to fit the 2 inch body lift kit I got from Rovertym in the USA aswell. I will be starting to fit the PTO winch aswell at the same time.

Plenty of things to do aswell as look after my 10 month old baby daughter Jenifer. I'm a stay at home Dad 3 day's a week.

She starting crawling last week, man how quickly things can change!!!

    Cheers

I didn't know the Disco housing had better clearance than the RR or are you just talking about the early RRs (did they have the big drain plug?)?
