If its only happening on over run when it's not under load then pinion bearings/seals would be next on my list.
    I rule!!!

    Hi John,
The front output shft bearing does seem to have quite a bit of play in it.
I didn't check it before but when changing the front prop shaft, I noticed a fair bit of lateral movement in the output flange, ultimately this leads to the roller bearing behind the seal in the front casing.
I am hoping that the bearing can be removed without Transfer case removal, it would make it a quick and easy job with the right tools.
Knowing my luck I bet that the entire case has to come out and that will lead to a full overhaul, hey?
    Ho Hum,
    Shirley..

    Hi Grimace,
Was thinking about it when I read your post.
That and the front output shaft bearing and seal which I know has quite a bit of movement in it.
I would imagine that both diffs would need to be done?
    Regards,
    Shirley.....

Not sure what you have to do with the borgwarner t/case in rangies. No problem pulling the front output in an LT230.

Sounds like that's the issue, the shaft vibe will be constant, worse on accleration not deceleration/coasting. Is there output shaft play on both cars, or just the RR?

On both.... Couldn't win a chook in a twenty cent raffle.
I learned a new hand signal with Range Rover and Landrover. It's call the "Deep pocket salute".
Every time I pass the 4x4 shop my hand goes straight into the pocket.....

Could be worse, at least you don't need to lower your Disco!

The Disco is a series one 1993 with about 186,000K on it.
I checked the diff oil and got some black goop on my finger, it resembles oil, sort of but I reckon there is a lot of Molybond or graphite in there......
The Rangie diffs are quite clean but do have a gritty feel to the pinions when I turn them.
I suppose at 350K one would have to expect some wear...
Probably end up getting two exchange diffs and be done with it.....
I'll check deeper when I feel a bit better. Too many back injuries.
