Ok, I had electronic ignition in my holden motor before I took it out, and it made a big difference.
So i was looking at doing the same with the 2.6 now that it is back in.
I've seen a couple of options out there.
there is the petronics ignightor, which is relatively cheap, and retains the original appearance.
Pertronix Performance Products . this would be the LU-162A for the Lucas 25D6 distributor
there is also the replacement dizzys, which are tidy, and very nice, but expensive and I don't know what they are like for parts replacements.
this is one such unit 123ignition electronic ignition systems for classic cars
so, thoughts, options, prices ??

much stronger spark, better power and economy. Smoother running, easier ignition etc etc. In the case of my holden red, it was a blue motor coil and dizzy that I installed.

Who did you find that sells them? I know there is a place in Adelaide that lists them on their website.
www.derek.com.au
only a couple of places in aus, that was one of them. he gave me a price on a coil and replacement dizzy at $395, but that's too mcuh for me, I just want the kit!
Waiting on a price.
From google searches it's likely to be cheaper ex US. about $80 USD from most places over teh pond so far. plus freight. if the AUD/USD was better it wouldn't be so close, but depending on price, derek may have my business

ok, from derek.com.au it's $320 for the replacement dizzy (which has the better ignighter 2 system), and $220 for the suitable kit. US is still looking a lot cheaper!
edit: I just got a quote from ontrack 4x4, $230 delivered to tassie. and they aren't trying to sell me the mroe expensive one, jsut priced what I asked![]()

I used to run a Lumenition optronic kit on my 2.6 SIII. Kept the standard distributor but changed the points plate for an optical pick up. Had a little black box that I mounted on the bulkhead. The set up was quite discrete and kept the original appearance. Improved starting no end and would run as smooth as silk. It was harder to stall than the TD5!! I can't remember where I got it but it was around $200 dollars. I beleive you may be able to get them through Repco and the like.
Edit - Just has a look on the web. Price has gone up a bit $473 inc GST + $20 - $30 for fitting kit
