    213000 km I hope that I do not have to touch the engine until 300000 apart of the timing belt every 80000.

    Most of what I replaced was still good but I just wanted reliability and spares for fuel/water pumps and hoses and once bought they may as well be on the car. The motor should last for years with that oil pressure.

    Started the old girl this afternoon after 5 full days rest and she gained full pressure within 1 second. Previously it would have been lucky to have made pressure in 1 minute after 3 days rest, I would call this a positive result.

    That is interesting that all else being well, no wear generally speaking, there was a problem picking up oil pressure. Up to a minute , as you said.
    Hope it is well sorted out now with those replacements.
    My own 300tdi, 200k.km. has the oil light go out pretty much instantly even when after sitting for 3-4 months (which it does every year)
    Normally when I first start after a "long rest" I stop the engine and then turn ignition on again to see how long it is before the oil light switch comes back on. Usually around 10secs., so I assume the oil pressure is OK?
    On 15/40 Mobil, it uses none between changes.

    Chucaro;

    any chance you can post a pic of your VDO gauge and show us where you've installed it ?

    The gauge is just a 2" VDO electric gauge and I installed it in place of that useless clock Rover put in the dash. Only problem was I couldn't seem to buy a sender or adaptor to fit the 10mm x 1mm thread for the existing oil pressure switch so I had to make one.

    VDO make a tee that screws into the spot the OE sender sits so you can still use the OE sender and one of their senders on the branch with an 1/8-27 NPT thread.
    I'll post up the part numbers tonight. Off to work now.

    I used the VDO 50mm gauge and adapter to be able to use the original sender plus the VDO sender, so the Defe have the light on the dash as well.

    I fitted the gauge on the MUD console, but if you remove the plastic cover where the cigarette lighter and the rear windscreen switch is you will see that on the metal plate behind it there is provision (holes) to mount gauges like in my old 1978 109 LR.

    Let me know if you would like to see a photo of the MUD console

    Cheers

    Thanks in advance Rick 130 if I can get the adaptor tee I'll reinstate the warning light. From memory I think I silver soldered a 10mm x 1 mm brass fitting from a SEW industrial gearbox to the 1/8 npt socket. Naturally I was a little nervous about the extra leverage of a tee and pressure switch as well as Diesel vibration and corrugated roads.
