    Propshaft Uni Joints

How often do people grease their universal joints?

My other half thinks I am always under the car doing mine.
I did mine before the Qld trip, halfway through (thanks Weeds) and I just did them again today in preparation for my drive to Adelaide on the weekend.

I usually find the rear uni joints take hardly any grease, both slip joints take a fair bit and the front joints take quite a lot.

I am guessing it is due to the extra heat from the engine and exhaust causing the grease to melt and fall out.

Grease is much cheaper than replaceing UJ's or shafts When I had truks I would do them about every 2000ks or more often if they worked hard. Hodgo

When I drove tow trucks in Alice, the company rule was if you drove on dirt, you greased the underside. Uni joints, kingpins, shackle bushes.

I guess that is where I got into the habit.

I try and do mine every 5000Kms. It's not so hard for me 'cause I can just throw it up on the hoist. Beats lying on your back in the gravel and getting gunk in your eyes.

You visiting your Mum & Dad in Bridgewater (can't quite remember where you lob in Adelaide...)? Anyway, you picked a good couple of days to be travelling

If you're going past the farm drop by and have a beer. We're around most of the weekend.

    Cheers

10K kms, with the engine oil change. Plenty of long, hot drives, and dust too.
