Aliens have stolen my tail lights

I hope there is a simple answer to this, someone provides it and I take a Bex and have a lie down.

My 1995 D1 has rear lights where indicator is in bar along with a tail light. Later versions of D1's also have a duplicate indicator in upper light unit as everyone knows

Anyway I went to change a stop light globe today and put in a normal dual 21w/5w stop/tail light globe in upper globe holder.I then noticed upper tail light did not work. Thats odd I thought noting bulb holder is set up for dual filllemnt. I pulled out plug to do a open and short trace to find only 4X wires namely ground, brake, fog and reverse going to plug. There was no tail light wiring in the plug (should be left is red/black and right red/orange) and therefore no tail light in this upper tail light unit assembley at all. This tail light wiring only goes to light assembly in rear bar.

Have I missed something here or have LR only given us lower/bar tail lights and that is all and why am I buying dual fillement bulbs????????

In about 1994 the ADRs changed with respect to side visibility of tail lights. The placement of the spare wheel meant that these requirements could not be met. So either the spare had to go or the tail lights had to be moved. (Note the pre updates D1s do not have lights in the bumper bar).

So the tail lights and indicators were moved to the bar and no wiring for these up higher with the other lights.

Check other 4wds of the same time such as Patrols and Pajeros that have rear spares on the door - they all did something similar.

Later - sometime around 96/97 the tail lights etc went back up into the higher fittings as well as in the bumper.

No one has stolen your lights - you can always put in later light fittings.

Thanks Garycol. Glad to hear I am not losing my marbles. Thats bizzare even by LR electrical standards. They instal a upper tail light assembley in 1994 that includes provision for a tail light and indicator bulbs ............but wait 2/3 YEARS to put in a wiring loom to connect them bulbs/that assembley???? Why not at least include those connections in the loom like they do everywhere else for options/NAS etc. It will take me 10 minutes or less time to raise this post to wire in what they forgot.
