    Question Plastic in door

    Hi,

I've been doing some work on my fender which required removing the interior door trim, which led me to wandering... What's the purpos of the plastic door liner that's stuck on with that black goo?

I can only imagine it's some sort of vain attempt to keep the dust out or something?

If that's it I would think getting the door to close without gaps would be more effective!!

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    Nathan

To keep the water away from the back of the door card. Not sure if it is Masonite or what, but if you get it wet it'd not be happy.

That black stuff they use for sealant is evil. Get that on your fingers and it takes ages to come off.

If you have a County/Defender with push button doors then I'm pretty sure the door cards are fibreglass or cast plastic.

    Well, mine are.

Could be the famous Land Rover sound deadener.

Could be the water seal to stop the rain from coming in through the window seals.

Could be that black stuff is the only thing that can maintain anything like a solid door seal, and the plastic is the only thing that will stop the doors from sticking closed.

I just call it The Stig.
