the waste gate rod is between the block and turbo, shorten that for more boost... its abit hard to get to so fitting a boost regulater to the vacume line of the wastegate modulator may be easier.
cheers phil
Hi Guys,
regarding the turbo on a 300 tdi, is it possible to dial up the boost, its running at around 14 now but I'm told you can run it around 16.
Is that correct and if so how do you adjust it.
Thanks in advance

In THIS link is an intereting reading about the Tdi300![]()
Hi Scott;
The Wastegate Rod that Discowhite is referring to on the Garret Turbo out of a 300tdi is pictured below.
If you want to get to it you'll need to pull of the whole Exhaust manifold housing off the side of the Head .
I found Relatively easy Job to do.
Having read on this forum that lifting your max boost to 16psi won't do much , but I'm yet to experience this myself by shortening the Rod , I haven't yet.

I have been through all this with my Isuzu turbo recently. The theory would be much the same with a Tdi.

Just lifting your boost wont do much without giving the engine more fuel as well.
However, lifting the boost should allow you to turn the fuel up a touch as the increase in air will lower the running temp (exhaust gas temperature). Adding more fuel will in turn raise the EGT again.
From what I've learned from others on here, and talking to my Dyno Tune guy, the 'basic' rule for a diesel engine is........more fuel = more power........while this is basically true, you can only feed the engine so much fuel before the EGT will be too hot and end up melting a piston or something. In short, there is a limit, and I guess this will vary from one type of engine to another.
Having said all that, there shouldn't be too big a problem tweaking your Tdi 'a little' I wouldn't think. I've never had a Tdi myself, but I'm sure there's lots of Tdi owners on here who can advise on maximum recommended boost and EGT etc.
If you're gunna do it, I recommend you fit an EGT gauge first......It's the only way to really know what's going on inside.

if you are going to adjust the fuel on the pump you should not go more than one flat ( or 1/6 of a turn) I have been working in a injection place laterly and we have a flow bench their and the smallest adjustment makes a big difference to the flow rate, so go small adjustments but you should get a exhaust temp gauge like the other guys have said that way you can keep an eye on it.
Hi Murray;
I also went thru this whole exercise myself a while back to get more punch from the 300tdi motor and turned up the Fueli've also fitted EGT gauge ( Thermogaurd ) & a boost gauge , by turning up the fuel I was blowing smoke and driving it hard didn't help either so I had compromised my economy , so I taken it down to graeme cooper for a dyno tune , VE Bosch Pumped was tweeked while on Dyno ,eccentric cone Diaphramp position / etc, A/F mixture checked / adjusted so the car has been running much more leaner now and boost comes on early and rises quickly but wastgated to 15psi , and wants to keep rising but it's limited to 15psi , I suspect there may be enought Intake charge at this point & more fuel would be nice . but Too much may get the EGT to rise further and I really don't want this . happy the way it's been running so far until I pulled off my Garret Turbo to paint it
