Its made from Snakes....![]()
Just wondering if anyone has tried or used Bitron in the engine oil of a TD5?
I am also curious about their automatic gearbox and diff oil additive. Are these any good or are the rubbish and a waste of money?? I have just built a rather large campervan and plan to tow it around a bit and want to give the Disco as much help as I can.I read so many conflicting reports on these things. I hope someone has experience with it.
Any other technical hints and mods on towing would be appreciated too. I have done a lot of four wheel driving over the years but never towed with one.

Actually.... I think Bitron may be about the only additive out there that isn't made of snake oil. It's not anything like the usual Nulons and that type of stuff.
Here is a clip of some of the Bitron testing. Admittedly it was done by Bitron, but it seems to be fair.

Naa, Tombies right, and to make matters worse, it's MLM goop.
I have not seen one independent and verifiable test done on the stuff.
DD, use a good fully formulated oil in your engine, gearbox and diffs and you don't need additives.
The blokes in white coats in the labs often have PhD's, and the top end products from all the reputable blenders are designed to meet and often massively exceed the tests that manufacturers can come up with. With goops you really don't know how it may react or affect the carefully balanced additive package in the oil.
In normal conditions you'll get away with it, at extremes ??
I often read of blokes throwing XYZ goop into a gearbox or diff and it solved a problem, but if they'd aproached an oil company 99/100 they would have a more suitable lube that would solve their problem on the shelf, and often cheaper than the old oil+goop.
<edit> This is from a bloke that blends oil in the US for an industrial lubricants Co.
I've talked to Bruce quite a few times, he blends probably the best shock fluid I know of.
specific garvity points to a Chlor parraiffn if so over time will increase acids and lead to bearing and metal surface corroison.
Thanks Guys...........you talked me out of thinking any more about.
FWIW
I had a Bitron rep try and talk me into using Bitron - all the usual claims made by them - I asked for some independent before/after treatment oil analysis results to prove their claims. That was several years ago! still waiting for the results. As soon as I asked for test results they went very quiet and I have not heard from them since. If it is as good as claimed they would not be hesitant to provide the evidence IMO.
As the Romans used to say "quod erat demonstrandum" or to put it another way that which has been demonstrated!! or I told you so
My advice avoid
