Thread: Dimming instrument panel lights

Why dim them, thats what there for-to see at night. I want to make mine brighter so i can actually see everything

You must have a problem to start with. I cant see mine during the day and I wish they were brighter. Jim

Because once you're out of the suburbs you don't need as much light at night to see them and they're distracting in the dark. It's why most manufacturers since have a dimmer on their dash lights, even my HG Kingswood did.

Would any dimmer from the wreckers be sufficient to take the current that powers the Defender panel?
OR if I buy one from Jaycar, what amps/watts specs would I need to quote?

Army 110, have dimmers in the middle penal.

Any panel light rheostat from a wrecker would work, or a 5w 25ohm rheostat ought to work. It could be mounted on the panel above the switches in front of your right knee - I have my driving light switch there, and from memory there was plenty of room. Also handy to the wiring from the switch.

Now i just have to find the right wire......incoming current between the light switch and panel I presume??!!
