Oil Cooler - Engine / Transmission

Does anyone know if an aftermarket auto transmission cooler is OK to use with engine oil?
What about the ATF hosing? It is a heavy duty (thick wall reinforced) hose.
How much pressure goes through the original LR 3.9 V8 oil cooler pipes?

I need to sort something out with my new engine as my radiator doesn't have an oil cooler built in.

Go to one of the hot rod/speed equipment shops and tell them the filter number. They will supply an engine oil cooler kit. Transmission coolers run very low pressures. I would not trust a trans oil cooler with engine oil.

    1: Not an option.
2: Why would I need to tell them the filter number? All the fluid lines are factory fitted to the Discovery 3.9 V8.
3: Trans cooler lines I have seen have considerable pressure.

    Thanks for your input though.

    Could you use one off a P38?? They are a separate unit, about 500mm X 100mm X 40mm

Why not just get a hose made up and loop it back on its self till you can sort a cooler

If he just wants it to go, he could just take the cooler pipe adaptor off and put the filter on

It will handle the pressure fine its only 30-40psi, its the flow that's the worry

One of the cooler hoses comes out of the bottom of the timing cover .

I am assuming the oil cooler is some sort of bypass arrangement, rather than full flow.

    Maybe I am wrong.
