Tis all a moot point now.

Yesterday I fitted a Disco I V8i radiator and fan shroud. The radiator has the correct fittings for the oil ccoler hoses.

How did the rocket go to Adelaide & back, mate? Happy? Sad?

Good move putting the Disco stuff in place - it worked well for us.

    Cheers

Big Jon - Are you running an Auto or manual?

I have a a different but related problem - I want to put a 94 disco auto into my 3.5 rangie (manual as gearbox caput)

DO I need the radiator with the trasnmission cooler lines or will the oil cooler on the disco box suffice? My issues is like you said above the rangie 3.5 does not have an engine oil cooler line and hence the holes in the radiator for the engine oil cooler would not be used.

And as I see if the trasnmission lines going into the hot side of the radiator must be to heat the oil where as I really only need cooling in Qld.
Any help or reference you can point me at is welcome

Perhaps a standard RRC transmission oil cooler (tube with radial fins) with the lines from a RRC to suit the auto might be the simplest solution. I assume that the 3.5 is still the power plant? If that's the case, you don't have to change the radiator - leave it in place.

Get all the fittings with the tranny cooler, bolts, clips, etc, and install it. You will have to take the grill off and perhaps the condensor fans - it's been a long time since I did one - but the hints are all in the workshop manual.

A little OT, but I'm Just about to fit a '97 3.9 to a 1977 2 door retaining the Su's but having the serpentine belt front, with a decent A/C compressor, 100A alt and power steering pump etc. Should be a neat engine compartment when it is done.
The vehicle already has EFI Exh manifolds and stainless exhaust, NEWSU's and leather trim, 24spline D1 diffs and sway bars, etc etc etc.
This wold have to be the best condition (Although not original anymore) RRC I have seen in a long time, he has even converted to Phase2 door mirrors, upper tailgate, rossignol alloys, the list goes on and on.

Anyway, back on track, Bigjon, do you notice the hotwire injection is so much more driveable and smoother in cold starts and idle quality? It is a good conversion I have done 2 now from flapper to hotwire in earlier RR's.

Thanks Pete - sorry for hyjacking the thread
GOing to use the hedge hog oil cooler and lines from the D1 I wrecked - will bold right into the RRC - except the line that goes via the radiator - as one of these I have has a bust hose I am going to get the two halves spliced together with new hose but by pass the radiator. Just trying to find out what the sensor on the line does? if temp or pressure might wire up a gauge off this wire. Keith

    Didn't happen without pics!!

As far as the second part,

cold start is good. Idle is good apart from sometimes stalling when slowing to a halt.

Have you fitted VSS to the conversions you have done? I haven't yet and I am not sure what sort to fit. I am thinking maybe a Disco speedo will fit.

    Hi jon,

On the very first one, I did. I fitted the full cable type from a early 3.5 D1 to the first half of the original RRC cable, it was a 1988 IIRC, I think we had to get the cable altered to fit the drive out of the trans or something like that. Haven't worried about it on the others, and hasn't seemed to make a difference. In fact, I reckon it has stopped that anoying habit the early D1's have of idling too high until the vehicle has completely stopped
