    Hi,

Has anyone in Sydney spaced out some Series1 Disco wheels for their Defenders recently. I had this done on our previous Defender - better turning circle, wider track and really tough wheels. Having said that, I kinda like the alloy wheels we have currently - petty these can't be modified.

What is the current $$$ and who is recommended.

Better + offset for larger tyres. Better stability with suspension lift etc, assist steering lock with said larger tyres, more articulation with less panel damage if you get it all correct. Plus more I.m sure someone will add.

The reason I'm thinking of doing so is that the wheels scrub the radius arms when on full lock. If done properly then it increases your offset and track width. The other alternative (for me anyway) is to buy a new set of tyres in a narrower width, this will solve the problem but is more costly than getting the rims modded.

Hope this helps, are there any other reasons?

I have just gone from 130 rims back to sunrasia's. I have noticed a big increase in my turning circle.
I can see why it is a good idea.

I still cannot quite understand why someone would like to go such lengths for some offset as there are spacers available that won't cost more as all the plastic surgery done to the rims, and can be fitted in minutes...

Spacers take me a little more than a few minutes to fit. They can be quite fiddely sometimes. Mainly they are not street legal and they're more expensive than having some rims offsetted. This said, if you offset more than 1" per rim then thats in the same boat.

You can buy Landcruiser offset (-26mm) Rover rims which gets rid of the need to offset also.
    Cheers

    Spacers are illegal

    Spacers are $$$

The 2 sets of rims I had modded were $40 each. The vehicles with them fitted have passed roadworthys in 2 states with no problems. I would like to see the same for a vehicle with spacers...

It wouldn't happen full stop. For the simple reason being that it is not the wheel studs that hold the weight of the vehicle, its the HUB!! Which is the problem with ALL spacers. Spacers should be illegal full stop! If anyone is running them I strongly recommend you take them off and get some offset rims.
