Hi guys,
If I want to press some 16mm LR studs into my existing trailer hubs, what size drill bit do I need to use when enlarging the hole?
Also do I have to buy new studs or can I press them out of some old LR hubs?
Thanks

In theory you should use new ones, but I would be happy to use second hand ones.

Thanks guys.
I was hoping 15mm as I have one here at work. I'll have to buy the 16mm bit and they are $35 each at Trade Tools.
I'll have to see what I can get two old hubs for but will probably be less than 10 new studs.
Plus nuts of course but I have 20 already for my play tyres which will work til I can get some at the right price.
Thanks Killer but I'll just buy one. I've got 2-4 hubs to do and 1-2 things I want to make to fit the rear wheel carrier.
Just got quoted $3 per stud (no nut). So $30 to do the trailer isn't too bad. What did you pay Foz?
Also Foz how did you get the old studs out? Press or hammer?
That is one expensive drill bit. I assume this is a Jobbers length drill. I don't handle these any more as they are (or should be) so cheap one can not really make a decent profit from them. I can sell a 16.0mm x No.2 taper shank drill roughly 2/3 of that. I only handle drills to order nowadays except No.61- No.80 drill sets.

you should see the price of drills at bunnings! discrasefull!!
i went to get a 16mm step shank (1/2'') i wasnt parting with $64!!!
screw wheel nut on till flat and level with stud end then belt with a soft hammer, or hammer and hardwood..Also Foz how did you get the old studs out? Press or hammer?
cheers phil
No idea on the length. That was a phone quote for a 16mm bit with 1/2in shank for drilling steel.
It only needs to be long enough to drill through the 16mm steel used on the hub.
If you have something suitable then PM me a price delivered to 4034. Thanks.
Actually I'd be able to pick it up from you if you'd prefer.
Thanks. Wasn't sure if that would be powerful enough to shift them but I was going to give it a go anyway.
