A few years ago I looked at a buying a 1984 RRC 4 door, and purchased it thinking great it has a UHF radio. It turned out to be a 27 MHz. It had two areals but the UHf had been removed. That was the 1984 that I am trying to sell--without CB radio or aireal, though it does have a aireal base. Have picked up a Uniden with both 40 channel UHF as well as 27 mhz, in it found thrown out in a clean--up day. Hope it works, but have yet to try to install it. This one automatically goes to chanel nine 27 MHz on start up, and then one has to change it to required UHF channel by hand. But if it works when I install it will be happy.
So good luck with your purchase, and read up about it before buying it.

I agree Xavie. We rarely need top of the range aerials. There are good cheaper ones out there...a good 3 or 6 db aerial will do you fine.

No I dont think it will work. There a a few good aerials on that website you referred to. I would ask them what they can do on a bundle...aerial and unit.

I would have to say No to reusing the old aerial

If you go to Dick Smith ... You can pick up a cheap aerial for about $40

Buy a cheap UHF .... I have a old GME TX4000 ... which does the job brilliantly
But my aerial is where I have put my $ in ...

    I run 2 ... 1 is a 4.5 db gain ($40) & the other is a 6.5db gain ($99)

If you use a unknown Aerial on your new unit ... You run the risk of destroying $$ it

Just as a guide, the ariel the cb guy told me to buy for my use (similar to yours) was $110 with cable. So when I say spend $ on the ariel instead, you don't have to go stupid.

I like GME and the cheaper remote head unit TX3420(?) would do you. To be honest I don't know how much they cost my car came with a TX3400.

Prestige Comms are usually pretty good. It's worth pricing around if you have stores nearby to you as they may equal the deal.

How's things going? Not too much damage to Dad's Pinz after the last trip? I'm still gobsmacked the angles that thing was getting .

As you no doubt have seen, I have an old Uniden hanging from a mount on the roof of my Disco and have a cheap unity gain antenna mounted on a spring base on a gutter mount just above my head and in convoy or on road it is more than adequate. Just something to think about.

    Talk to you soon.

    Cheers
