This is crap, my friend. 5th is a very useful gear as you soon will notice. What is true, though, is that some early R380-boxes were lacking lubrication of teh output shaft splines which resulted in premature wear and consequently failure (been there, done that). Your 1995MY is one of those affected. As you have rebuilt your gear box (as I understand from your other thread) you will most likely have fitted the updated output gear, which has cross-drilled holes to enable adequate lubrication.
Even if you would not use 5th gear at all, you would still have the wear on the output shaft splines.
