TDi Disco-Driving from QLD to W.A stuck in Melbourne

    Hey all.
Im 22 and heading to West Aus in my Discovery Tdi and have encountered a minor problem in Melbourne (lilydale)

The problem started with what sounded like rocks stuck between the disk brakes and the pads (front drivers wheel) As it got worse i decided to pull the wheel off and have a look.

I have observed that 2 of the 5 bolts that secure the "Driving Member" to the "Hub" to the "Brake Disc" have completely snapped (leaving 2/3 of the bolt in the Hub and Brake Disc)

There is a fair bit of play between either the two or something behind. I can rock the wheel and hear movement that creates that scratching when rotating. When I rock the passenger front wheel I can here the play on the Drivers wheel.

I would usually spend a week trying and fix this myself as Im a poor ar$e uni student. But being half way to WA I don't have the time

Can someone please give me some advice to where I can get it fixed in this area asap or maybe if you know it's simple how I can fix it with my limited tools!! the problem will be getting the remaing bolts out-

I did try pulling the driving member away from the Disc but couldn't-either becuase of the bolts or maybe just siezed.

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated - if you live in melbourne around lilydale and think you could fix it please let me know (I will obviously pay for your time)

    thanks

In Ringwood you've got AMV and Range-Rov. Also out that way is Fred Smith Automotive in Bayswater.

Unfortunately sounds a bit like the wheel bearings have collapsed.

    Rangie Automotive in Lilydale.

They I think are the closest, and have lots of used parts avail.

I think we are missing the point and this bloke needs a hand.

If you were in Ingham I would be happy to help Christian.

I didn't think so, since these are also his nearest parts people as well. What ever's happened I think he's going to need parts at the very least.

would the brisbane floods last november with water above my wheels have something to do with collapsed wheel bearings? any ball park figures if it is that?

I don't know the area / City / State ... If it's wheel bearings then you will have to change the hub seals at the same time .... Also if one side is shot // Then the other is not too far behind it

The bearings can be bought at ANY bearing suppliers outlet ... But the seals will have to be a bit more specific

Be VERY aware of limping the car ... cause the bearings could let go at ANY time .... as they are the ONLY thing hanging onto your wheel

Because your stuck ... Below is the "best bet" (that I know of) for parts if the other areas / places don't work out ... Any mechanic can get you going again
