dobbo iopted for jacmac axles allround - around $1000 delivered to bris from memory - 3yrs ago though, and heat treated modified star hilux c.v's, by haultech.

i had a turbo 4BD1 for the first few years of the wombats life and now V8 auto (yes i am slightly silly) and no problems thus far - knock on wood. lockedfront and rear. i broke a few county c'v's before the toy swap (when i bought my 2nd set of county c.v's i couldn't find any stamped GKN (from memory) as these were the tougher of the county c.v's from memory GKN stopped making them and some other mob did and from then on they were and inferior product. so went the toy route....

Maxidrive axles in the rear should be enough. Maxidrive axles & Ashcroft CVs are enough for the front end. Standard County CVs, if you can find some genuines, should be enough without lockers.

The front CW&P is up to the job even for tuff trips, with sensible driving. Mine was swapped from the old Disco to this car, had about 400,000 kms on it before it got noisy.

If you're thinking about 35s, then also think about 4.11s in the diffs. I can put you onto someone in Hornsby you has all the bearing numbers etc for the rear.

Rock crawler gears are now hard to get, but you've got a good lo/lo anyway. Plus all that torque off-idle.

Developing it is half the fun.

max if your speaking for LT gears, they are easily sourced from the new manufacturer MR automotive in redcliff - just north of brissie they took over the manufacture from mal - maxi drive.

and if your thinking you'll have strife breaking stuff keep your 3.54's as they are stronger then 4.11's. hey you've got an isuzu you don't need gearing:D

Begging your pardon here, but no-one has yet actually listed what they've broken. I mean, what actually are these weak points that you've found?

axles - 24 spline, c.v's - after market county. no centres yet.

Front diffs and inner (10-spline) axles are the weak point on a county. The rest is pretty strong. The rear (salisbury) diff centre is probably even tougher than the 4BD1!

Dobbo - let me get this straight - you don't have lockers yet you are breaking stuff???

Hytuff or Jacmac axles and flanges will make the rear bulletproof for anything up to 37's. HT/JM 24 spline axles a locker and longfields or similar will make the front tough enough for up to 35's - but the fron R&P will be the weak point.

You know its funny...everyone says how hard Jeff is to deal with but I sent him two emails in the last couple of weeks for prices and he responded really quickly. It was great service. He may be different in person though...

BTW - front is around $600 and rear around $700 for 24 spline axles

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing...................what components have you actually broken on a County ????

Well dobbo is actualy banned for a few weeks for reasons unknown to him so i will answer as well as i can on his behalf, i beleive his truck has suffered a broken front axle and CV as well as a centre, also a front tailshaft. not sure if he has done anything else.

as for me in my county, 2 county CVs, 1 rear salsbury axle, 2 front diffs most of that on 32s only the axle and a cv on 37s, and for my old disco just a rear diff.

my money says....
