I'm really getting jack of it,
I bought this county with one purpose in mind, tuff trips. My problem, the driveline components, as we all know rover stuff is made of cheese and costs a bloody fortune in comparison to other makes.
So do I save up the dosh and go south of the border to Jmac for a proper chop and tuck or a backyard version using various Toyota parts? I just don't know what LR had in mind when they built this bloody thing, it's fine have 1 weak link in the chain to sacrifice before expensive components, how many do they friggin need? The county has the engine of a truck, the body of a truck, a gearbox of a family saloon, and the rest of the driveline is made for the wiggles mobile. The way I see it if you get a fat man to don a pink dress, make up and high heels after a few too many they may look slightly like a fugly but essentially they are still a man and....... lets not go there reminds me of a......
Urghhh "it puts the lotion on it's body else it gets the hose" "it puts the lotion on it's body else it gets the hose" "it puts the lotion on it's body else it gets the hose"
Anyway
The County is an original 4BD1 so may be considered by some as a collectors item to be put in a glass house in a museum somewhere, personally I could not give a rats ass about this. But do I bastardize it so I can get a bit of fun out of it or keep it original and keep wearing out, sheering and busting the crap out of the original crud?
Your opinions please?
Cheers Baz.

What Redback said, plus some crush drives maybe? They're a bit expensive, but should stop that 4BD1 hammering your parts to death.

Christ dobbo you sound like my boss,'' Why does it cost so much to keep the machines running, they only work 24/7 I don't get it''.Go and buy a tojo or nissan, they never break down and parts ARE cheap!!! Not. Pat
It takes a while to sort it all, but you can upgrade it without bastardising it. For me, putting Nissan or Toy bits under it goes against the grain.
Maxidrive axles in the rear should be enough. Maxidrive axles & Ashcroft CVs are enough for the front end. Standard County CVs, if you can find some genuines, should be enough without lockers.
The front CW&P is up to the job even for tuff trips, with sensible driving. Mine was swapped from the old Disco to this car, had about 400,000 kms on it before it got noisy.
If you're thinking about 35s, then also think about 4.11s in the diffs. I can put you onto someone in Hornsby you has all the bearing numbers etc for the rear.
Rock crawler gears are now hard to get, but you've got a good lo/lo anyway. Plus all that torque off-idle.
Developing it is half the fun.

Longfields is what you need
as for the sals, just get some maxi axles, ive gota get some very soon, waiting till we do the disk brake conversion so i know which type of axles i will be using first.
Now if only there was more upgrades available for the lt95 i.e reduction gears..
Im with the others, for the hassle of swapping nissota bits into it there are stronger LR specific products available. Just save the cash and when the original stuff breaks swap in the stronger bits so you get your monies worth out of the original stuff. Building them up is half the fun, if only it wasnt so expensive.
