Transfer case removed, rear shaft threaded?

So I undid the bolts that hold the LT230 t-case on and pulled it off the gearbox.

When removed, I noticed the gearbox output shaft has a thread on it. Does anyone know what the purpose of the threaded part is on the gearbox output shaft? Is it for a PTO?

Anyways, the whole reason for this muck around is converting manual to auto. Just discovered I need need a set of t-case linkages/actuators as the manual box ones don't fit the auto. Need the whole assembly that bolts to the top of a ZF 4HP-22. Anyone got a set they don't need?

    Thanks!

I'm asssuming you have an LT77? The threaded section is to thread the retaining nut and washer for the output flange in a 2wd application, IE rover SD1 hatchback, triumph TR7 etc. These boxes were originally used in cars, then added to RR's etc.

Sorry, haven't got any spare linkages, try TRS in Adelaide, they will for sure.

Yep, LT77. Thought something might have fallen off!

There's no difference between the LT230's on auto or manual, is there?

Glad I pulled it to bits. So called mobile land rover expert made a silicon gasket between the gearbox and the t-case, rather than replace the seals. Idiot. Also all the bolts holding the transfer on were all rounded, had to weld a nut onto one to get it out. Fair dinkum, no wonder I end up doing all this stuff myself..

Not between LT230's, but changing from borgwarner viscous transfer to LT230 the spline length on the autotrans output adapter sleeve isn't deep enough and the LT230 won't go on far enough I've had to bore the input gear splines out 30mm to allow the shaft to slide far enough in
And yes, unless the person doing the job actually WANTS to fix your truck properly, then you ARE better off doing it yourself.

    Hi,

there is a thread on both the 2 wheel drive and the 4 wheel drive LT77 mainshafts but the shafts are actually different,

as JC says, the thread on the 2 wheel drive one if to hold the flange on but the thread on the 4 wheel drive shaft is to attach the tool to fit the collar the oil seal runs on, only used for assembly purposes,

the mounting bracket you want for the hi/lo lever is :

    Ashcroft Transmissions

the transfer case will swap to the auto but if the transfer case has a cross drilled input gear you will need :

    Ashcroft Transmissions

    Thanks Dave, legend!

Hey, not that I don't think you've got a good thing there, but is there the genuine version of the mounting bracket? The Aus peso doesn't look good when compared to the GBP!

    Hi,

yes the part number is FRC8558, this bracket is found on all RR classics with the ZF and LT230 and all disco 1's with the ZF and 230,

you can use the 200 disco or defender linkages with this bracket
