    AMV steering protector/bash plate D1

Has anyone got one of these fitted to there D1....

I brought one off clarkie for my 96 disco.......

He pulled it off his 97 Dsico and we can not get it to fit....

If mouted up to the hole which the bullbar is also mounted too at the front of the chassis rails just before what looks like a body mount the bracket is not long enough to match up with the hole for the original steering protector....Its too short!

So its mounted up to the bottom bolt on the chassis...it even lines up with the scuff marks allready on the guard bracket so it looks like its in the same place as what the other disco had it.

as you can see the end of the bracket just does not meet up with the original mounting point for the old steering guard

So we did take it off and mount from the original mouting point for the steering guard first.....lift the guard to see where the bracket would sit (and If this is making sense to you) the bracket lined up with the hole that is below what look like the body mount on the chassis (just after the bullbar brackets in the top photo)...only broblem is using this hole it doesn't line up with the hole on the bracket as the top of the bracket fowls on part of the body above it.

    Any ideas????

This is it mounted to the 97 disco.....not very clear pics for the mounting brackets at all but it does prove that it was mounted to one originally

If you look at your photo you will see the bar mounting bolts, but no bracket attatched. The left side shows the bracket bolt behind the bar mounting bolts.

This is it mounted to the 97 disco.....not very clear pics for the mounting AMV Steering protector, near New - AULRO Classifieds

Hey CC i'm finding it very hard to understand what you have writen...

Tombie is that third bold hole already there in the chassis or did you drill that yourself?

the only hole I believe is there extra is the one I was discussing above in the top picture that sits inside that bracket for what I think is the body mount is that the hole you used?

If I use that whole I would need to pack it out with some seriously big washers as it is a big hole.....and I would also need to cut the top of the bash plate bracket so it doesn't fowl

I'm thinking back over 7 years... And sorry DB, dont have any other shots from other angles good enough to focus that point.

BUT, I believe it was mounted using a crush tube (spacer) and a rectangular piece of plate with the bolt hole dia. drilled into it... So YES, it uses that area, but you appear to be missing a few bits...

TIP: Fit the rear mounts where they should be, loosely.
Then lift the front into position and fit. You'll then know exactly where you need to mount it!!!

    !

Yes we did and it came to that third hole......but couldn't understand why the hole on the bashplate bracket would not line up with the hole in the chassis.....

it seems a lot of work grinding down a bracket etc etc to fit something that effectivley should just bolt straight on. thats why we weren't sure if we had missed something.

Look closely at this AMV pic and you can see the bolt sticking out from where we are referring to.

There should be in the AMV 'kit'

    1x Alloy Plate
    2x End mount plates
    2x Crush Tubes
2x Rectangular plates (fit into outside of chassis near mount)
    And the bolts, washers etc..

Reason it doesnt mount to the front holes is SRS vehicles! And it will foul the common winch mounts and bullbars if it went in the front holes.

No-one said its a bolt up job But then neither are the bullbars

Oh, yes, and theres NO grinding of the vehicle, just the hole...

Get some flat bar to fit in the mount... And some pipe as a crush tube...

Shouldnt be too hard, and DW would most likely have some bits around his place...
