    Disco temp guage

    Hi all
    Where abouts should a 98 tdi disco's temp guage be reading at normal operating conditions?

    mine always sits just below half! i have 96 Tdi
    Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

    97 tdi300
    sit about half way BUT it is not an accurate indication of real temp. Mine reaches its NORMAL position at about 52 degrees and is still sitting in its normal position at about 90 degrees. So at best its only a temp indicator. Get yourself a electronic safety water temp warning device.

    Before you get too concerned, check the temp independently of the gauge (laser thermometer or something...). The gauge & sender are very sensitive to poor earthing and can make you think you're overheating when actually everything is fine!!

    Thanks fellas
    It also jumps up and down a bit ,awhile back it blew one of those wonderful plastic bungs out of the thermostat housing .Had to get the head planed and gasket etc ,ever since then the guages been playing up.

    Did you replace the plastic bungs, with the brass one?????????????

    there is two of them...

    Yes i have replaced the plastic bungs with brass bungs ,i will be getting proper brass ones that look very similar to the original stupid plastic things -they have aproper fibre washer and shoulder - i saw them on a online parts place.
