Stop car / Put Auto in neutral / push lever forward = Low range


Your car came with a "Owners Manual" .. A nice leather wallet with a thick book in it, plus all the service details & history ... Crack a beer and give it a good read

I drive a S1 Disco so i may not give the most reliable information for a D2 but depending on what model you have (i.e. Year) you may not have the CDL (Centre Diff Lock) installed/available in standard trim. The CDL light is probably what the person was expecting to see. I am not sure if there is a light in the D2 that indicates low range without the CDL (i know in my D1 low has no light, only Low CDL does). Easiest way to check it is going into Low would be First Gear high and check speed at a set RPM, then try Low Range and check speed at same RPM.

Hopefully that is somewhat helpful.

Oh yeah, i think there is also a TC (Traction Control) light in the D2 dash but this will only flicker on/off as the TC is working, so not always on.

Unless you have physicaly selected low range using the low/high range lever, then it will be in high range, but I would imagine that you have a pre 2002 D2 and you don't have a centre diff to lock it into 4WD.

This is what I am thinking. it does not have a CDL... (2001 model) it just goes from H to L.... I had no problems putting into L but the bloke reckoned that it wasnt engaged however, I am sure it was because once I got out of the soft sand I had not trouble getting off the beach and had travelled some 20ks on the beach before turning into the soft sand.

I also not that the manual does not provide any useful information about whether there is a light or not...but I seem to think there isnt.

Thanks Mike, perhaps I did not explain myself properly in the first post and that is what has led your your informative post. I know how to engage it...I just don't recall whether there was a light to indicate it was in Low....that is the question I was asking. Just for your information the owners manual does not mention that there is a light I just wanted to be clear on what I thought.
