Thread: D2 Auto gearbox M&S lights both flashing

It means a gear box fault has been logged. Normally these self clear after turning off the ignition. Check the gear lever is in N or P and also check your Hi/Lo lever is engaged properly. Underneath on the passenger's side is the wiring harness and linkage. These sits below the A/C drain so check the connection on the harness and give it a clean with some contact cleaner.

Also check your battery terminal connections are tight.

My S & M was coming on the the sign is when you start the car on the dash there will be no P for park come up on the dash and when you select a gear it will not come up on the dash or will take a few seconds to do so

I had my inhibitor switch replaced her in darwin and it cost $610 at landrover in darwin by to get the part and do it my self would not have save me much money so easy to get them to do it

Be carefully because if goes completely you can have the car stuck in gear like landrover Darwin did to mine so I had to wait for the part to be sent here because they could not get it out of gear this in a 2002 td5 auto

The reason for the S&M light is because the computers for the auto is not talking to the rest of the car. If you turn the car of and let it rest for 30 seconds or so it can reset the computer and you can drive on all the S&M is doing is put the car in saftey moad and will not go higher than 3 gear

I never had my car not start on me so it sounds like it has not gone back in to park .

Check your battery as well. My brother in laws disco had this problem when we were in Tassie. Replaced the main starter battery...no more problems!
