    Coolant Leak,Big Dramas

Hi All,iv got coolant geting into, the 2nd rear cylinder on the passanger side, did a compression test, that cylinder was 30 psi lower than the rest,so pulled the heads off,the gasket didnt look too bad, sent the heads in,had them pressure tested then rebuilt, put it all back together,and.......SAME PROBLEM...i cant belive it,so my question is,does anyone have any sugestions,i dont belive its the block,in thinking more the intake manifold, theres a strong smell of petrol in the coolant, but also coolant in the oil,i pressure tested the cooling system today and it held pressure ok,also, with the motor at running temp(turned off),expansion tank cap off,and the plug out on the bad cylinder, coolant keeps getting in,kind of like its just freely draining in itself, any help would be great,,Cheers Brad

Assuming it is a V8, sounds like a slipped liner problem.

Yep, its a v8 the give away being
2nd rear cylinder on the passanger side
I'll back the slipped liner but you could also be up against a manifold leak or even the gasket letting go and acting as a one way valve (which means its on the way out but hasnt totally failed yet)

Check if the liner is below the top of the deck like this one. If so, you have a slipped liner. The "second rear cylinder" as you mention is prone to slip as you can see from this pic.

Are the V8 liners wet or dry type?

the, faces on the block all look really good, the leaking cylinder very very clean due to the water,im really suprised theres not even any type of lip at the top of the bores,iv been trying to find some sort of picture or drawing to find out how the water flows through the intake manifold,im not sure but it seems to me that mabe the water is leaking in from the intake through the inlet port into that cylinder, reason being if i had a cracked bore i cant see it geting the amount it is,with the whole system not being pressurised(tank cap off,oil filler cap off and spark plug out on the cylinder)

time for a leak down test....

get the donk warmed up, get the pot thats leaking onto compression and then feed compressed air into the sparkplug hole... then work the piston from TDC to BDC

    you'll find your leak.
