High oil pressure, Is a worry?

When I took delivery of the Defender Tdi 300 it have a fresh oil and a unknown brand of filter to me.
I fitted the VDO oil pressure gauge and the reading was 400 Kpa when cold and 250 kpa running at normal temperature @ 90 Kph on the flat.

I have done an oil change now filling with Fuchs Titan 15-40 and fitted a Donaldson P550318 oil filter
    The reading now is:
When cold 600 Kpa running at normal temperature @ 90 Kph 600 Kpa over 90kph can go over 800 Kpa
Idling @ normal tempreature is 250 to 300 kpa

I just wonder if it is something to do with the filter and most important if the pressure of over 600 Kpa can damage the seals?

    Your inputs will be appreciated.

Those pressures don't seem too high to me, but I am sure JC will have a definative answer. Maybe there is a problem with the relief valve in the pump. After rechecking, 800 kpa (116 psi) does seem a little on the high side.

I wouldn't be concerned about seals failing, there are precious few (if any) seals that have to withstand the oil operating pressure.

I have heard of excessive oil pressure blowing off oil filters, but not in a 300 tdi...

Thank you for your inputs, I am thinking in replace the filter for a Ryco and if there is not any diference in the presure then I will have a look at the oil presure relief valve to see if it is dirty.
    Any other sugestions are welcome

    Cheers

    Hey Chucaro...
I've got some used big-end bearings which would no doubt reduce your oil pressure

    Your welcome to them

Operating presure on the original LR book:

    Pressure, engine warm at normal operating speeds ........ 1,76 - 3,87Kgf/cm2 (25 - 55 Ibf/in2)

Quote: Oil pressure relief valve .................................................. .. Non-adjustable end of quote
    ..........I do not like this

In the book this valve is called oil temperature valve so the oil pressure valve is located on the hard part to reach

From Rave "If excessive pressure is indicated it can be caused by overfilling engine with lubricant, sticking oil pressure relief valve, blockage in breather system." I'm not sure a different filter would make such a difference?
