electric motor magnets bonding failed

Hi, this is a non landrover question, was going to take the boat out tomorrow to do some fishing and take it for a thrashing before doing some mods and maintenance, I always test that everything works the day before taking it out but alas the outboard trim motor did not work pulled it to pieces hoping maybe a clean and lube the bushes would get me going.

But no found the magnets have come adrift from the housing guessing the glue that holds them on has let go no signs of heat just age is there anyway of bonding them back on as a new motor will set me back $500 second hand probably would not be that much cheaper.

If I was in the bush and it was a starter I would consider super glue.

It will have been some sort of epoxy, and for that price I would certainly try it. To get the best results, you probably want to research the most suitable epoxy for metal to metal, but I would give araldite a try.

The secret to success will be a very accurately fitting joint and scrupulous cleanliness.

Araldite (normal stuff) will fail with heat, not sure how hot it needs to get though.

I had the exact same thing happen in a front-loader washing machine about 10 years back, I used araldite, and hammered 2 10c coins into the gap between the magnets(one each side). this wedged the magnets apart holding them really well until the araldite cured. the magnets were held in place tight enough with just the coins, and as they are not magnetic, they didn't interfere with the motor. I then glued the coins in place too so vibration couldn't loosen them. If you do something like this just watch you don't crack the magnets as they can be quite brittle. The motor I repaired did more than 30,000 rpm on a spin cycle, and the repair lasted until the machine died this year due to the main tub eventually coroding(Ron?) away.

I knew there would be an answer out there why pay when you can fix for much cheaper and I like the washing machine one higher speeds than the DC motor I will be trying to fix.
