installing 2 inch lift discovery series 1

HI, i probably will cop it for bringing this up, im assuming it has been covered 1000's of times before in other threads, but ohwell. Im just looking for tips on installing a 2inch lift (suspension) to a D1 300tdi. I have dobisons springs and a set of bilsteins. Im no mechanic, but it is just nuts and bolts. right? Anyway some hints/tips to make it easier or simpler would be great, otherwise im getting a carton of beer and seeing wat happens.

    cheers

    Easy....

Night before, go around and spray WD40/CRC/Lanotec on all the bolts that will need undoing the next day..
Shock Bolts, Tower Nuts, Bolts on bottom of spring platforms...

You'll need to do the job...

    At least 2 jack stands
    A good Jack (or 2)
    10mm, 17mm and 19mm spanners (and sockets)
If shocks stick a set of multigrips to grab the old shock body whilst you undo the pin at the front helps...

    To do rear:
Undo upper and lower shock bolts with car on ground. (This allows shocks to come free of axle on droop)
Jack rear of vehicle up and set chassis on stands...
Remove wheels whilst axle off ground
Lower axle on jack, it will lower further since shocks undone. (Pay attention to brake lines)

Spring will come free of upper mount, undo the 2 bolts holding lower plate and remove spring.
Clean spring perch, remove upper rubber isolator and fit to new spring.
Slip new spring onto base, align and refit the retaining plate.
** You may need to push the axle down further to get new spring in the top perch, but not much... You can jack the axle away from chassis gently if need be... **
    Repeat for both sides...
Fit new shocks to top mounts.
Jack diff back up ensuring springs seat up into tops... (assistant is good here) and guide shock lower into diff mounts...
Fit tyres, remove rear from stands, lower to ground and fasten lower shock mount....

    Rear Done

Front is similar, except undo top of shock and drop through turret once you have done the bit in green above

Compress old shock up and pull spring out...
    Lower shock out...

    Push new shock in....
    Compress new shock...
Slip New spring in and let shock extend back into place..
    Tighten shock mounts..
    Raise axle to seat coils
    Fit tyres
    Remove chassis stands
Drop vehicle and do up shock bolts etc...

Now double check all fittings etc... Wheel nut tension...

    Test drive....

You shouldnt need spring compressors at all....

And if your handy, it should be all done in 90minutes

Perfect advice, but to add, it may be worthwhile to drop the torsion bars too - gives a little more droop allowing you to slide the coils in easier.
