Found differential locking switch to be bad after checking with a multimeter - question now is whether it is worth replacing or if it will just act as if I engaged it while the engine was running - ie traction control still functioning.
Hello, This is my first posting to the forum as I've only recently moved to AU and purchased a 01' Disco II with a TD5. Recently I was put to shame playing in some sand by a Prado which got me looking into whether my Disco had the CDL that just wasn't hooked up or not that I remember reading about.
I've located the "nipple" on my transfer case and rotated in with a 10mm open end spanner. There was a solid clicking noise when moved ~ roughly 30-45 degrees ~ as if it had locked into a detent and had moved the internals of the diff lock.
I did this with the vehicle off and expected to see the central diff lock light display on the dash as well as the ABS and traction control lights since I've read they are disabled by the computer when the CDL is locked prior to starting. My dash displayed none of these lights.
I can see that there is a outline of the CDL light in the instrument cluster but have never seen it come on prior to starting.
Any thoughts?
I didn't find any fuses for the CDL listed in the RAVE manual, other then that I can do trial and error on a hill but was looking forward to modifying it to be operated from in the vehicle.

Just rotating the CDL nipple with a spanner will not necessarily throw the CDL in, so your dash light will not light up.
Activate your cdl by using your spanner then jack up one wheel and try to turn it by hand. I bet your cdl dash light will come on as soon as you feel some resistance from the diff lock coming into play.
If you find your wheel is still able to spin freely your cdl has not locked in for some reason, maybe jammed internally.
If the wheel won't spin freely but you still get no dash light then your cdl is locked but your cdl sensor or dash light is at fault.

Try locking it in then driving backwards and forwards
Don't do it for to long though your exhaust will get to hot and you won't beable to get up there without getting 3rd degree burns![]()

You guys were spot on. I locked it tonight moved it a hair and presto the diff lock light came on. I shut it down and restarted and then got the ABS and TC lights as expected. Happy days - Now I just need to decide on how complicated I want to get to lock it - ashcroft kit looks ideal but more then I want to pay at the moment. Now to find that pesky black/blue wire running to pin 9 on the SLABS ECU that wants to spoil my fun.
Thanks again for the help.
Pricey to get the proper kit, eh?
Did mine over the weekend. See here
Only cost a couple of dollars.
Cheers,
