D1 200tdi clutch hydraulic grief.
The clutch pedal on my mums D1 sometimes goes straight to the floor but by pumping the pedal it becomes operational again. I was going to clamp off the line between the master and slave cyls to try to isolate the master cyl but the flexible part of the line seems very hard and I didn't want to risk cracking it. How hard should that part of the pipe be or is there another way of isolating the cylinder (maybe a plug the same thread as the pipe but what size is it) ?. Is there a clutch component that fails regularly on these things (besides the clutch fork, done that) ?.
Thanks,
Anthony.

I'd say you have an airlock and that is why you are getting pressure when pumping the pedal. Sometimes they can be difficult to bleed properly - if you look at the master the feed pipe from it has the elbow at the highest point. Sometimes you can get it right and it bleeds out perfectly, sometimes it can go on and on before you get the right speed on the bleed to get the air out... happened to me once when I changed a master cylinder and I just couldn't get it right for some reason
. Eventually succeeded though...

I'll try bleeding it as it's near due for it's annual fluid change but apart from that I haven't had the system apart for about 4 years (the clutch fork !!!).
Cheers,
Anthony.

There is a damper on the slave cylinder to stop engine vibration being transmitted to the pedal. In my foggy recollection I had to change this when I had the problem because it had started to leak... was a very small leak but enough I think to let air in and let enough air in to never bleed the damper correctly. That may be your problem. Sorry it took a while for synapses to connect on that one!
