86 rr stopped on way home

    hi all
new to efi engines not that i am any kind of mechanic but wanted to check on my next step, the rangie quite on the way home , just stopped like it had no spark , plugs leads dizzy cap and new coil were put on not more than 7 months ago so i am pretty sure it's not them , after i pulled up and turned down radio , tryed start and would get bit of a splutter and staggered firing not enough to keep it goin after a bit no fire at all, will check or replace fuel fillters but if i take the fuel dellivery line off and get heaps of pressure this means the elec pump and fillters r ok i assume if pressure is ok what i most likley to be culpret , thanks for any help guys.
    cheers chuck.

karcrafts new prices are around the $60 mark, or there is a thread in the tech section about fitting a bosh BIM024 amp, these are readily available from supercheap etc and will work with HEI style coils.

ive just been through this in the last few days

    OE part number STC1184/2

G`day Chuck , before you buy anything , you may want to look a bit more .

You say it runs on airostart so it must have spark which is part of the modules job .

If it runs on airostart there is probably a lack of fuel .

If it were me i`d be looking at the fuel pump operation first and then things related .

    Cheers

Had a chance to whip off the fuel line and no fuel at all was flowing.
my prob now is that the stupid haynes repair manual tells me the fuel pump is external either in front of back wheel on left side or under pass seat under car not no fuel line on the left, fuel line is on the drivers side and no external pump to be seen , the car has had some mods done b4 i got it such as twin batt and 12v wiring so not sure if has later model fuel tank with internal pump. will empty the back and have a look for an access panel inside , thanks chuck.

in your first post you said there was fuel pressure
if there is weak spark and fuel pressure you will get the symptoms you have.

when you turn the ignition key on the acc, you should be able to hear the fuel pump run and stop. if you cant hear it change the fuel pump relay first.

sorry about my punctuation discowhite it may have read that way due to my bad clerical skills .
got no fuel flow at all.
found section in book in supplement pages, it does have the internal pump with no access panel [ have to remove tank to get to pump ], and relays r under seat [ wondered what they run ], will get some new ones and throw them in first and hopefully that will be the end of story.
will let u know how it goes.
    cheers.
