    TD5 with auto box.

    Hi,
Will a TD5 engine from an auto Disco fit up to a 5 speed manual Defender gearbox or is the crankshaft different from auto to manual?

    Cheers Ben.

I would be more anxious about the electronics and making an auto TD5 setup run without faulting. You may be better off finding a Defender TD5 or at least the electronics from a Defender to match it all up.

Electrics will be your biggest problem dropping a Disco TD5 into a Defender.

There are subtle software differences between Disco and TD5 ecu's. They are not inter-changeable.

Biggest differences are that Disco ecu may be looking for (example) 0V - 5V, whereas Defender ecu (at same software instruction) may be looking for 5V - 0V. Consequently some things work backwards!

If you get all the electronics, engine & Gearbox from the Disco it will all run, clocks in the dash will not!

If you only want to transplant just the engine then as Dave says just swap the flywheels. All the sensors are the same and will work fine with the Defender ECU. You must however reprogram the ECU to the injector codes of the new engine for optimum performance.

If you want to install the gearbox, which I don't think you do from your first post, then good luck as that is a whole new kettle of fish.
