    Steering Box Nut Removal

I know the nut factory tightening is BFT or 170NM and thats the problem but... before I reach for the gas axe or nut splitter.

1/ Have soaked the threads in penetrant.

2/ Have it hit it with the rattle gun several times at 140psi

3/ Currently have 3m of water pipe leverage held at about 20kg (thats about 600NM) or so locked in place. Hit the general area with lumpy waiting for a satisfying clunk. Still waiting...

The threads look good, no corrosion.
Is it time for heat? Will this bugger the seals on my first ever rover PS box that doesnt leak a drop? Any other clues? FYI the integrated ball joint is shagged, I have a new drop arm but not a new nut...

Try the Lock tite product 'Freeze and Release'. It worked wonders when I had to do some suspension work.

Can second that. Works a treat. Another forum member used it when we were trying to remove a steering wheel, and it worked well.

    ^^^^That

Usually they're oil soaked and the trouble is keeping them tight

    no its a normal thread.

Ive never had one not come undone but since I normally hit it with a 3/4 inch drive rattle gun thats not surprising.
