Yep yep Phil, thankyou for your insight :) Umm the only reason its gonna be 4" is cause i already have them. I was gonna get it set up like that properly first, then see how it moves/flexes and drives and then go from there.

Im not a big fan of body lifts and max i will go is 2" which i may do on top of the 4" suspension. I think for this sort of setup im gonna need to throw $$$ and get arms front and rear to free up movement, otherwise this lift setup will be a waste.

I havnt found aftermarket rear trailing arms yet :eek: I have to speak to the workshop about it all still, problem is i live on the Gold Coast and nobody knows anything here really. So its gonna take longer. I NOW KNOW what i have to do thanks to you guys, problem is getting it done.

Im just gonna go slow and do a bit and see how it is, then do a little more and go like that untill its how i want it. Iv been told there is a Land rover person near me, so ill have to check that out too. BTW phil, i love your pics, that defender is a beauty!!!!!!

Might be worth checking what the regs are regarding a 4" lift and whether that is legal. I'm from SA, so might be more lenient up there, but a 2" lift is the max allowed without an engineers cert. Might be different up there though.

The other thing to think of is insurance. If things go belly up and your vehicle is not legal, could have ramifications with your insurer.

If it's all legal, then ignore what I just posted and go for it :D

From the insurance side just because it is legal doesn't mean you are covered by insurance. A 2 to 4 inch lift would need to be disclosed to your insurer legal or illegal.

Conversely just because it is "illegal" does not mean insurance will not cover it. E.g having HID's on a vehicle (if illegal) practically speaking will not void your insurance.

Modifications such as Chip upgrades should be disclosed to an insurer however a chip upgrade is highly unlikely to be found by an insurer. So you can take the risk/punt.

well good on ya mate for working that hard to buy your toys its a great attitude to have. I have read the other posts and I would agree with Phil aka discowhite, springs are cheap so replace them with 2-3 '' ones. As most have said 2-3 make it 3'' in the springs as it will sag as it gets older then two in the body. going 4'' and no body is limiting your up travel as the tyres will hit the body but if you lift the body 2'' and spring 2-3'' you will gain much more as you will gain more travel up and down provided you have the correct shock set up. I have bought rear control arms from Rovacraft in Sydney they are cranked top releave the preasure on the bush.
