Should I use the sump baffle from P5/P6 ?
I've got a stripped down HiComp 3.5 from a P6 in my shed and I noticed it has a large separate baffle plate that covers the big ends. I guess it reduces crank agitation of the oil, or provides less turbulence for the oil strainer which sits a few inches below it. I guess it would also reduce oil splash to the piston skirts. It may have been part of the original Buick design and perhaps Rover decided to remove it in later production runs to reduce cost.
I'm rebuilding a 3.9 and was wondering I should fit it?
Thanks in adv,
Taz.

G`day Taz
If the P6 has its original sump you`ll see it`s just a big open dish .
Then you know the RR sump has a hole in it that the pick up fits through .
I haven`t looked at a 3.9 ( 1 in the shed will look later ) but the 4.0 i put in to replace a 3.5 in our RR didn`t have the holes or threads to fit the P6 type tray .
So i guess yes you could fit it if it clears the baffle that is already in the RR sump but you may have to drill and tap holes to mount it .
To my knowledge they were only fitted to the cars Ps and SDs etc and the RR one does the same job but is a different type .
Also i guess you`ll have noticed the 3.9 has a different pick up and smaller hole than the 3.5 .
Cheers
