Is there an australian supplier?

Any exhaust shop here can bend a pipe up to replace the muffler, it'd be cheaper than one imported from the UK.

Do a search, there's about one billion posts/threads on TD5 exhaust mods.

I was speaking to an exhaust bloke a couple of weeks ago, and he agreed that the standard centre muffler on the TD5 is fairly restrictive.

The options are either a new, free flowing muffler to keep the noise down, or a straight thru pipe.

Still trying to work out which way to go, but will do something in the next couple of weeks, and post the results.

I always thought the D2's had fairly well designed exhausts (with the exception of where the V8 manifold joins the exhaust.)

When I replaced the centre muffler with a straight through pipe the noise increased and the performance was unchanged with the exception of the turbo spooling up about a millisecond quicker. In the end I put the muffler back in again.Mind you, this is for an auto which generally keeps the turbo spooled up anyway. I think the manuals have had better turbo results.

Buy a Vortex muffler and replace the centre muffler with it, it actually does make a difference, a bit better than the straight bit of pipe that I had done.

i went thru the exact same thing,, an i got the center replaced with a stragt thru pipe, nosie is allmost unchanged, ( witch sucks cos that was what i was after) but i found out its cos my td5 has the cat,, an the guy at the shop told me that they kill the noise down heaps,

for perfomance it dose make a diff i say, going from 70-100 takes no time now, it pulls way better now, an the turbo dose spool a little faster,

but for 80bucks its the cheapest mod realy, im happy with it,, i would do it agen, but i bet in a auto the out come would be diffrent,, next to happen is get the guts out of the cat an get rid of the last muffler an finaly get the sound im after,

I took the cat off and then the center muffler. I'd say the sound is "deeper" and performance seems a little better. I'm still doing the d
fuel check.

If I was going again I’d do the front engine pipe and center pipe all at once from a muffler shop. Actually I'd probably do the whole lot in a 3" pipe.

The front pipe cost me $450 (self fitted) and the center pipe cost me $180 fitted.

I looked at the vortex but I struggle with the concept that "swerling" air (gas) and then pushing it out the same size exit pipe is going to make any difference.

I recon a 3" straight through system would deliver better results. But I stand to be convinced.
