    200 Tdi Lift pump...help!

    Hi All.

just done a service on my 200 tdi defer today and after changing the fuel filter i went to pump it up. pump feels like it is doing nothing, i did a search on here so have tried making sure the ignition is on and tried giving it a little crank to move things.

In fact it kicked straight over as soon as i hit the key. but runs rough just like its getting no fuel.

I pulled the filter back off and it doesnt have a drop in it at all, but the vehicle will start every time>>>

Any ideas???????? Obviously somethings not right.

Stangely on friday I had a similar thing with the pump not feeling like it worked on the disco but when i hit the key it started and ran fine and i just let the air run out, tightened her up and she was sweet
    Cheers

has some idiot pre hooked the system so that the filter is on the return side or bypassed?

if its starting and running just crack the bleeder and let it go till fuel comes out of there.

you should also prefill the filter with clean fuel prior to putting it on.

All Looks hooked up correctly. i Will fill the filter and try it again.

Other than that i guess A new lifter pump is in order.

might not be too bad an idea anyway.

    thanks Dave for the help.

Why not replace the lift pump with a small in-line elecrtic pump? Sure would make it easy to bleed the system with the turn of a the key.
But saying that, my lift pump packed up ages ago, there is a pretty good unit in the injector pump apparently. (I will fit a 'leccy pump one day)

    regards, Jack
