Clunk in Drive Train - Disco 2

My 1999 Series II Discovery makes a clunk (seemingly from the drive train) at low speed...I have had it checked by my Land Rover specialist who told me that such a noise is normal, being due to a "lazy axle" configuration... has anyone else experieced this and if so could I have an opinion on this matter? Thanks,

    Nick C.

Its probably lash in the centre diff. You can get this tightened up again with a rebuild. It seems there are shims or something in there that weld.

That at least it what always does it for me. Mind you, I'm currently running around with CDL locked and no front shaft and I have pretty much no lash in the driveline.
    Cheers

Does it have ACE(Active Coner Enhancement)???
At low speeds on smooth roads you can here it "Self Test".That makes a clunk sound.

My D2 makes a clunk noise when it put into 1st gear standing still.
Could be the spigot bearing friction against the input shaft.
This clunking whent on for a year then, A SMALL FORTUNE.
    Flywheel, clutch and spigot bearing.
Flywheel and clutch was due but spigot bearing made this happen sooner!

    Hi Andy

Can you give me any more detail on this, as in what it is actually doing?

Mine clunks at slow speed and has been doing it ever since I got it. It happens in the middle of a trip as well as at the start. Never while cornering though. Sometimes I'd swear it happens in the same place on the road.

    Cheers, Andy
