    Fuel Sender Fault?

On my way home from dinner and drinks with cewilson (visiting from Wagga) tonight, my fuel gauge was indicating low fuel so I thought I'd just add 30 litres as I'd need it for the Jellore trip this weekend.

Hmm, it seems the tank was nearly full - it certainly is now. The problem is that it still indicates empty and, to make it worse, the tank is leaking from the top so there is now a puddle of petrol under the car.

Somehow I have to drain the tank (155 litres) and drop it out. I suspect the seal around the pump is faulty. The fuel gauge has been iffy ever since I replaced the pump last year. It looks like the sender has now failed completely. I guess the supplier won't replace the pump under warranty.

Another item for my faulty goods list - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-ch...ml#post1001878

I have a heap of Jerry cans at home if you want to borrow some or there may be a 60l or 205l drum at work.
Why wouldn't the supplier replace the pump? If the sender is faulty, then it's just a parts claim & he should replace like with like.

Thanks, Scott. I have a couple of 60 litre drums and two jerry cans so I'll be OK there.

You may recall the old pump failed on our way to Albury after Lee's death in Feb last year. I replaced it when I got back (March), so it is well over a year old - although I've done less than 10,000km since it was replaced.

It's been gradually getting worse. I wonder if the float is punctured oir damaged? I saw a post on here recently about the floats in LR pumps failing due to ethanol in fuel. If that is the case, then there will eventually be more problems as the NSW govt. mandated that all petrol must contain ethanol. Qld has also gone that way, I believe.

Changes that mean NSW triples its ethanol mandate from two to six per cent have been introduced into state parliament.
Lands Minister Tony Kelly said the bio-fuels legislation would help create jobs in regional areas through the establishment of a locally-produced, sustainable fuel industry.
"We introduced a two per cent mandate successfully last year and this legislation moves us closer to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels," Mr Kelly said.
The legislation also will mandate for a 10 per cent ethanol blend in all regular grade unleaded petrol by July 1, 2011 and introduce a bio-diesel mandate starting at two per cent.
This will rise to five per cent as local production increases.
