CDL lever - too much play

My D2 CDL lever (ex D1) has too much play right at the top that only give side ways movement for CDL.
The bushes lower down on the linkages has little or no play.
I am at the point of either replacing the whole assembly or fabricating my own version.

It could be the High/low/CDL linkage the lever rotates on in the metal box on top of the gearbox. The circlip holding it together pops off, and it gets sloppy. It can be removed in situ , after removing the transmission tunnel gasket, and a little bending on the LHS of the tunnel. Also note that the pivot for the H/L linkage has a plastic grommet in it that can fall apart. The grommet ( spacer?) is the same size as the copper bushes of the door hinge. (Which is what I used when my grommet fell apart)
